The event is organized by the sport's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and is contested by Test-playing nations (currently the ten teams officially allowed to play the longest form and highest level of cricket) and qualifiers. The championship is held around every four years (since the 1975 inaugural edition). The Women's Cricket World Cup has been also held on a four-year schedule since 1973, two years before the first men's competition.

The world cup will begin this year on the 5th of march with some warm up and friendly games, between nations, the group stages will begin on the 13th of March with West Indies and Pakistan starting the games, in Jamaica.
Australia has their first test on the 14th of March against Scotland at St Kitts and Nevis, while England will meet New Zealand at Saint Lucia on the 16th March.

With the second stage beginning on the 27th March and the semi finals are on the 24th and 25th of April in Jamaica and Saint Lucia and finally the finals are held in Barbados on the 28th of April.

cricket-player It’s been a good year for Australia, has not only have they taken home the Ashes, but also the ICC Cricket World Cup! All in all, 16 teams competed for the prestigious award, including Australia, England, Sri Lanka and South Africa.

The super eight standings were identified (in descending order) as: Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh and Ireland.

In the semi-finals in Jamaica, Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 81 runs to jostle for first place against Australia, who beat South Africa in Saint Lucia. The final, held in Barbados on Saturday 28th April, saw Australia emerge as proud winners, beating Sri Lanka by 53 runs.

The ICC CWC is a huge event, and a firm favourite with cricket fans and families all over!
