Arsenal was created in 1886 and were called Woolwich Armaments, and later Woolwich Arsenal. It wasn't long before the joined the second division and found themselves playing against professional teams.
The major turning point within the clubs history was the move to North London, and changing their name, they dropped “Woolwich” from the title to Leave Arsenal football club. This move was completed in 1915.
In 1919 Arsenal moved to the first division and in 1920 they were mid mid table and a strong team within the division, with Herbert Chapman as manager.
In 1933, 1934, 1935 Arsenal were English champions.
They were champions again in 1938 before the War stopped competitive football for 6 years.
Over the years Arsenal have won several titles and still today are one of the biggest clubs in English football, Arsene Wenger is the current manager, and his most successful yea was in 1998 – 2 years after he took up his post, when Arsenal won “the double” beating Manchester United in the championship and Newcastle in the FA Cup.
