The great European competition - The UEFA Cup!

uefa-matchThe UEFA cup was created in 1971 and replaced the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.
Initially there was a rule that only one club per city could enter the competition but this was abolished in 1975.

To qualify for this competition teams must meet the UEFA coefficients. The most successful nations generally automatically qualify as well as runner-up positions from the most profound leagues within European nations.

Generally Speaking, if a club is eligible to enter the UEFA Champions League then the this place takes preference and the club will not enter the UEFA Cup.
This place is then offered to another club!

Sevilla are the current champions, winning the competition in both 2006/07 and 2005/06.
Liverpool was the last English side to win this competition in 2000.
