The United States Open tennis tournament (U.S. Open) is the fourth of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments.

It is held over two weeks in August and September.
The main tournament consists of five championships: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, mixed doubles, with additional tournaments for senior, junior, and wheelchair players.

Since 1978, the tournament has been held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in the Queens borough of New York City.

The US open is different to the other three Grand Slams in that there are final set tie breaks, where as in the other three, if the match is level in the final set, players continue to play until a winner is decided.
The main court within this facility is called the Arthur Ashe Stadium and can seat 24000 people.
The reigning champion is Rodger Federer, he has won this competition since 2004, the women's title is held by Maria Sharapova who is a 1st time winner in this competition

The men's double title is held by Bob and Mike Bryan who are also 1st time winners, however they were runners up in 2003.

The women's doubles title is held by Nathalie Dechy and Vera Zvonareza while the mixed winners are Martina Navratilova and Bob Bryan.
