Rugby is a sport that is traditionally popular in Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Ireland, New Zealand, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa and Wales amongst others.  But ever increasingly it is becoming more and more popular in a wider variety of countries like Argentina, Italy and Japan.

This new found popularity really is something else when you consider that the game was founded in 1886 by the IRB (International Rugby Board) - you would have thought that all the people who were going to like it would’ve already discovered it!

One reason it is getting more approval could be down to the Rugby World Cup, which has grown bigger every year it has been held (every 4 years, the first being 1987).  The latest one just finished in October of 2007; with South Africa defeating England in the final.  A valiant England were trying to do what no other country has ever done; to win the World Cup twice in a row.  But taking into account their poor start and nobody giving them a chance, England can be extremely proud of their efforts in France.

There were 20 teams in the World cup just past.  4 America teams, 1 Asian, 5 from the Oceania region, 2 African nations, and 8 from Europe.
