Royal Ascot is one of the world’s most famous race meetings, dating back to 1711.
The royal family attend the meeting, in a horse drawn carriage .
The festival lasts one week and takes place at Royal Ascot which is in Berkshire.
It is a major event in the British social calendar, with extensive press coverage.
Attendees in the royal enclosure must wear a morning suit, and many people outside of this section often choose to wear one as well.
The press coverage of the attendance and what they are wearing often exceeding the coverage of the actual races, it is no surprise there are many extravagant prices for categories such as best dressed ladies, best head wear, best dressed men and so on.
In order to be admitted to the royal enclosure for the first time, one must be sponsored by someone who has attended at least four times.
The meeting attracts over 300,000 people visitors during Royal Ascot week.
Ascot racecourse was closed for redevelopment work in 2004, and a massive £185 million was spend on the course, which was funded by Allied Irish Bank (GB). As the owner of the course it was re-opened by the Queen in June 2006.
However it has since received huge criticism for not providing sufficient raised viewing areas for patrons, and so another £10 million has been allocated at the end of 2006 to improve lower seated areas.
The 2007 Royal Ascot took place this year from the 19th of June to the 23rd. See below for information on the winners and runners-up at this year's spectacular event.
