Renault is a racing team which has competed both as an engine supplier and as a constructor since the late 1970s, although not continuously, and took over Benetton (then renamed Renault in 2002) in 2001. They won their first constructor's and driver's championships in 2005, repeating the success in 2006 with Fernando Alonso.
The team are coordinated from Renault's UK base at Enstone, Oxfordshire, and their other motor sport activities are conducted through Renault Sport. The team principle is Flavio Briatore and the technical director is Bob bell, the two drivers for Renault is Giancarlo Fisichella and Heikki Kovalainen.
Renault made their Début in 1977 at the British grand Prix and through the years have had many good and bad seasons, their best season by far was 2004 in which Renault surprised everyone by being strong contenders for second place in the constructor's championship.
2005 saw Giancarlo Fisichella entering the team and with him and Fernando Alonso's excellent performances in a number of races, they won the constructor's world championship and Alonso winning the drivers championship.

At the beginning of the 2007 season Renault announced that the Dutch bank ING would be replacing their title sponsor Mild Seven, which would remain for the next three seasons.
