UEFA Match There have been many events to remember the success of the premiership over the years,
The very first goal scored in the competition was by Brian Deane of Sheffield United, when they defeated Manchester United in 1992-93.

  • The competition is based on a league style competition with a final played if two teams are on the same points.
  • In 1992 BskyB bought the rights to broadcast all marches on a contract of £191 million which was re-negotiated in 1997 and rose to £670 million for the following seasons. The third contract which was for three seasons up to 2006-07 was signed for £1.024 billion!
  • Notoriously renowned as being the home to the worlds best footballers from around the world!
  • Transfers and signings has reached unbelievable levels – Alan Shearer was signed in 1996 to Newcastle United for a massive £15 million – this was the biggest and most expensive signing the premiership had ever seen, and he retained that title for almost 5 years!
  • Andriy Shevchenko was bought by Chelsea for a massive £30 million in June 2006, to date this is the most expensive signing within the Premiership.
