The PGA Championship (US PGA Championship) is an annual golf tournament organised by the Professional Golfers Association of America as part of the PGA TOUR. The PGA Championship is one of the four major championships and is the golf season's final major.
It is played in August (usually the 4th weekend after the The Open Championship, but it will be advanced a week in 2007 and 2008 because of scheduling conflicts). It is an official money event on the PGA TOUR and the European Tour, with a purse in 2006 of $6.8 million (apprx. €5.3 million).Champions are automatically invited to the other three major championships for the next five years and to the PGA Championship for life.
It takes place in various golf courses throughout the US. Tiger Woods is the reigning champion of this tournament, he also won it in 2000 and 1999.

The first PGA championship was played on 1916 at Siwanoy Country club, in Bronxville, New York. It was initially a match play event but was moved to a stroke play in 1958, and many have said the reason for this was because of pressure from TV companies.
In 1916, the first winner Jim Barnes received $500 while in 2006 Tiger Woods received $1.224 million.

This year's PGA Championship takes place from August 9th to August 12th, at Southern Hills County Club, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The defending champion is Tiger Woods.

The 2007 PGA Championship saw him battle it out against feelow American Woody Austin, ultimately winning with a margin of 2 strokes, and a final winning score of -8.
