Manchester United Football Club are the most famous club in the world of football. One of the most successful teams in the English football leagues as well as throughout the world! It is and has been in the past home to the most famous Footballers in the world.
The club was formed as Newton Heath LYR F.C in 1878, it was a team made up of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway depot at Newton Heath. The club faced bankruptcy in 1902 but was bought over by JH Davies who changed the name to Manchester United
The team had always used Old Trafford as their ground but it was bombed during the second world war and they had to seek charity from Manchester City to play their games there.
Tragedy struck the team in 1958 when a plane carrying players home from a European cup match crashed on take of in Munich, and in the accident eight players and fifteen others lost their lives,
Matt Busby re-built his team through the 60's signing a number of new players. They went on to win the FA cup in 1963, the league in 1965 and 1967 and the European cup in 1968, and this team contained three European footballers of the year – Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and George Best.
Manchester United reputation and following grew from here, and is still very present today!
