The Malaysian Circuit was first added to the Formula one world championship in 1999 and it is held at the super modern Sepang International Circuit in Sepang. The track itself is 3.44 miles long and drivers are required to complete 56 laps of the track to complete the circuit.
Michael Schumacher currently holds most race wins on this track, with three wins, while it is Ferrari who has completed most constructor wins on this track, with four to their name.
The 2006 title pole position went to Giancarlo Fisichella and his Renault team.
Sponsorship of this track comes from BMW Asia as well as Porsche Carrera Cup Asia.
The Malaysian Grand Prix has brought much entertainment to the sport in its short History. In 1999 it saw the return of Michael Schumacher after injury and his complete domination of the race, while Ferrari won both 1st and 2nd positions, only later for both drivers to be disqualified because of a technical irregularity, handing the title to Mika Hakkinen.
2001 saw the weather play a significant part of the days events with a tropical storm forcing both Ferrari drivers to spin of the track but almost unbelievable they both recovered to achieve 1st and 2nd positions! On the 8th of April this year, Fernando Alonso, a McLaren-Mercedes driver won the Malaysian Grand Prix, completing 56 laps in 1:32:14:930.
