Liverpool are one of the best known and most successful teams in English football. With a number of outstanding achievements throughout their years of existence it is no surprise that they also have one of the largest and most dedicated fan bases in the UK.
The club was founded in 1892 by John Houlding he had bought Anfield and decided to create his own team to play there. Liverpool are still home to this stadium but are soon to start work on a new 61000 seater stadium beside neighbouring Stanley Park following the take over by new owner, American Businessmen Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
The club plays in the Premier league.

However, regardless of the huge club success over the year they have been hit by two tragedies over the history of Liverpool's existence, these being at Heysel, in 1985 where thirty nine Juventus fans died and another in 1989 at Hillsborough where ninety six Liverpool supporters lost their lives.
English clubs were banned from European competitions for five years after the Heysel disaster and after the Hillsbouragh disaster a full enquiry was organised into the safety of the stadiums in English football.
