Ireland rugby is presented as a united country, both Northern Ireland and the Republic play as one team, and is hugely popular throughout the country, and is a growing sport within the island.
Ireland play within the 6 nations competition every year.
Ireland rugby union are the Irish Rugby Football union, their current coach is Eddie O'Sullivan and their captain is Brian O'Driscoll. Their first international match was against England and they lost 7 – 0 in 1875.
Their home pitch is Landsdown Road, however this is closed for redevelopment due to re-open in 2008 – '09.
Currently they play their home matches at the near by Croke Park, home to the GAA, Ireland's national sport.
Their Jersey is green with white shorts and green socks.
Controversy over the team anthem and flag have been a problem within Ireland. Because the team comprises players from both the north and south of Ireland it isn't reasonable to play the Republic of Ireland national anthem. So a new flag and anthem were made.
The flag is made up of the different flags of the four provinces within Ireland, Ulster, Munster, Leinster and Connacht.
The crest of the team is a rugby ball resting on three shamrocks with the letters IRFC in a banner below, the crest is green and white.
