The cricket world cup has been in existence since 1975, and it is regarded as the premier international championship of men's One Day International Cricket.
The final is contested by all ten test-playing and ODI (One Day International) playing nations. As well as the other nations which qualify through the World Cup Qualifiers.
The 2007 World cup was held in the West Indies between the 13th March and 28th April, with a total of 16 teams taking part with a 'final 8' semi and finals.
This years winners were Australia after they over come Sri lanka and retained the title.
They have the best record for winning this competition.
England has had the honour of hosting this competition on four occasions, in 1975, 1979, 1983 and 1999. They have never won the competition but have reached the final on three occasions.
