Chelsea Shirts

Chelsea jersey The Chelsea jersey has always been blue, however the design of this jersey has changed a number of times since the creation of the club.
The original colour was a lighter blue to represent the racing colours of the then president Earl Cadogan, and were matched with light blue shorts, which were short lived and replaced with dark navy shorts, this again changed in the early 1960's when Tommy Docherty took over. He added blue shorts and white socks which have remained since, he stated the colours made the team stand out and no other club used those colours.

Chelsea's traditional away colours are yellow or all white with blue trim.
The crest which like the jersey has changed several times over the course of the history of this club, can be found on every players jersey, initially it was the image of the Chelsea pensioner, which gave them the nickname the “pensioners”, but it was when Ted Drake arrived at the club when it was changes in 1952, and instead used an uprght blue lion looking backwards and holding a staff. It was three decades later before it was changed again to include the coat of arms of the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea. The final change as made in the 2005 – 2006 season which is like the older design of the blue lion.
