Chelsea Football Club ply their trade in the Premier League. They were founded in 1905 at the Rising Sun Pub.
When Ted Drake came to the club in 1952 and started to manage the club and reputation began to change, he removed the Chelsea pensioner crest and build a new youth training regime, he re-built the side and brought them to their first major success in 2954 – 1955.
Chelsea have only ever had one ground, that being Stamford Bridge football ground. It was officially opened in 1877 but for the 28 years before Chelsea was founded it was used excursively by London Athletics Club.
The crest has changed several times over the years, initially it was the image of the Chelsea pensioner, which gave them the nickname the “pensioners”, but it was when Ted Drake arrived at the club when it was changes in 1952, and instead used an uprght blue lion looking backwards and holding a staff. It was three decades later before it was changed again to include the coat of arms of the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea. The final change as made in the 2005 – 2006 season which is like the older design of the blue lion.
