His career with Madrid began when he was signed in 1st July 2003, it was speculated that Madrid very keen to sign him for merchandising purposes! But he became a massive hit with the supporters within his first season scoring five times in his first 16 matches.
The 2006 world cup was exceptional for him, he contributed to a number of goals, setting them up for fellow team mates, and scoring himself also, but he was forced off due to injury in the quarter finals, which also ended England's participation in the world cup!
It was not until 2006 – 07 with Madrid that he earned his first tile, winning the Spanish La Liga title.
His career with La Galaxy to date has been reasonably uneventful with injury forcing him to the sideline for most of the matches, but he has, even in these early days managed to score!
