The Arsenal jersey has always been a deep red colour. The person to thank for the original design was Morris Bates, who obtained a set of jerseys from his old club, giving Arsenal their colours!
It was during Chapman reign when the colours were changed again, although they kept the same red, he added white sleeves and numbers on the players backs.
The crest on the jersey was unveiled in 1888, it was made up of three cannons, but this was dropped after the clubs move to Highbury in 1913, and in 1922 the club adapted their single cannon crest with only one cannon, with the clubs nickname “the gunners” imprinted on the side.
The current crest is red, with a west facing single cannon, with some changes in the colours, the green in the crest has been replaced with a dark blue, some of the supporters claim the crest is forgetting some of the clubs most important past.
The general look of the jerseys have changed over the year but the team colours have never changes.
The club have an away jersey, which is traditionally yellow and blue, although between 1982 and 1984 they wore a green and navy shirt.
They have had a sponsor since 1982, where JCV sponsored until 1999, SEGA dreamcast then was the sponsor until 2002 O2 was next to take up the role from 2002 until 2006 and the current sponsor is Emirates which is expected to last until 2014.
